Rituximab therapy for hepatitis C virus‐associated cryoglobulinemic membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis
Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis associated with mixed cryoglobulinemia is the most common form of kidney disease observed in relation to hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Rituximab, a monoclonal antibody against CD20, is an effective treatment for severe and/or refractory HCV-related vasculitis and may evade the need for dialysis as in our patient.
متن کاملHepatitis C virus infection and genotypes in blood donors
Abstract: Genotyping of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) is important for designing therapeutic strategies and regional specific diagnostic assays. The aim of this study was to identify the HCV genotypes in HCV infected blood donors. This is the first report on HCV genotypes in blood donors in Iran. In this cross-sectional study, 103 blood donors with hepatitis C were investigated for HCV genotype...
متن کاملRenal biopsy in a patient with haemophilia A and cryoglobulinaemic membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis associated with hepatitis C virus infection
A renal biopsy was performed in a 47-year-old man with haemophilia A. Thirty minutes after administration of an intravenous bolus of 4000 units of recombinant factor VIII, which increased the activity to 74-91%, a needle renal biopsy was successfully performed, followed by administration of 3000 units of factor VIII in the evening, and then the subsequent morning and evening. The patient was di...
متن کاملDelayed spontaneous resolution of nephrotic syndrome in a patient with hepatitis C virus-associated membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis
Treatment with antiviral and/or immunosuppressive therapy is considered the standard care in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN). However, even with an adequate therapy, a favourable response is not always guaranteed. In patients with HCV-associated MPGN, a delayed spontaneous remission of nephrotic syndrome is rare. We present here o...
متن کاملRituximab induces regression of hepatitis C virus-related membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis in a renal allograft.
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection complicates clinical outcome in liver and renal allografts [1]. Besides its important contribution to chronic liver disease, HCV infection is also a relevant cause of de novo immunemediated glomerulonephritis in both kidney and liver transplantation [2,3]. It has been shown that the development of de novo membranous and especially membranoproliferative glomerul...
